After world titles in 2007, 2009, and 2013 and more than 20 world tour victories, Mick Fanning is stepping away from competitive surfing.
The Australian surfing superstar has just finished competing in his final event at Bells Beach. Unfortunately there was no fairytale ending but it was close, Mick finished runner up to Brazilian Italo Ferreira. He may not have won, but Mick Fanning did what Mick Fanning has always done; worked hard, showed his talent and his determination, and fought off some of the biggest names in the sport. With great sportsmanship, Mick embraced Italo in the water and congratulated him on his victory.
His career highlights are not limited to trophies, who could forget that time he punched a shark? Everyone goes on about it, but he PUNCHED A SHARK!
His career has spanned an impressive 18 years, and while Mick is no longer surfing competitively, make no mistake that he will still be surfing. Long may it continue.
