Dakine

Dakine was started in 1979 by surfer Rob Kaplan who made straps and leashes for surfers and windsurfers. By 1982 he was also making a range of travel bags designed for the action sports devotee and his advances in equipment design established Dakine as one of the new sport’s most trusted brands. By 1986 world-class snowboarders and skiers were also asking Rob for equipment help and it was a snowboarder that asked for an essentials-only pack for his heli trips to Alaska. Dakine created a custom pack that became one of their most iconic products ever. When designing their products, Dakine live it, build it, use it, improve it, then do it all over again next season. Packs and equipment for all action sports.

DAKINE BACKPACKS, A SURE BET - Why Hardcloud carries Dakine

Dakine's entire range of packs and bags are made using 100% recycled main materials.

Using recycled materials reduces the carbon footprint of manufacturing and increases the post-consumer value of things like discarded fishing nets (nylon) and plastic bottles (polyethylene) thereby reducing their potential for ending up in a landfill or floating in the ocean.

Did you know that recycled polyester has the lowest carbon footprint of any suitable material, even lower than natural fibers?  Dakine are definitely doing their bit for our planet.

Dakine use PFC-free compounds across their products to reduce the long-term effects in the environment.

Perflourinated Compounds (PFC) are chemicals used to make things resistant to outside elements, like DWR coatings to resist water. The same reason PFCs are so good at preventing water or dirt from attaching to materials (like jackets or backpacks) makes them very difficult to break down in the natural world. This leads to PFC contamination in our rivers, oceans, food supply and our bodies, so Dakine are commited to using PFC free chemicals in their production processes.

Dakine are committed to respecting the places we play and ensure that the mountains and the oceans are protected for the next generation.

That is why they have partnered with these organisations to help improve action and spread awareness of environmental issues.  Dakine packs are for the outdoor adventurer and that's one very good reason to protect the places we want to all enjoy and explore.

Their avant-garde approach to creativity has been the corner-stone of Volcom, pushing boundaries in all aspects of design to foster an eclectic and inclusive creative tradition.

Every season a new collection of products from featured artists add something different and exciting to the Volcom range.

Volcom uses hemp in selected items for the environmental advantages it offers.

Hemp is a time-tested fibre made from a fast growing annual plant which is a low input crop generally requiring little or no use of pesticides or herbicides. Volcom are always looking for new (or old) ways to reduce their eco impact.
